Hoodie came home with Isabel. She seems in good heart & full of plans from bringing out 19 Beautiful Years, a calendar &c. Mrs. Ward Poole was here too & at lunch H. said "It was a reminder of the fun & force of Rest Cottage only our orchestra now missed the leading violin."O where is she whose life was music? My dear young brother J. J. Shutterly has sent me "A Young Man's View of St Courageous"-so good and new. Dear Little Nan! God guard & send her safely back.

I never got on so well with my An. Ad. as this time-because I have in my big envelopes so very much less ground to go over than formerly & because 2 stenographers "spell" one another for my benefit daily. Cossie in her pretty new "Green Room" working away. James Whyte, secretary of the Alliance, here for a conference. He says "Lady H. bleeds financially at every pore"-the H.S O. instance is one of particular difficulty. Anna's first letter-[entry continues in space for 9/10] just a week from her arrival in NY came (Sat.) & is full of cute material, she met Lyman Abbot, Annie Besant, Dr. Bernardo, Geo Pentecost, Mr[?] Alvin Bartlett & the Welch chorus of women on the ships.-Dearie Bess sailed in the Cunard Cephalonia today (9th Sept) coming to stay while Isabel goes over. Mary Livermore, Stevie, Fessy & other leaders write me to be sure & not come this year. -James Whyte sec United Temp. Alliance was here all day talking of the interests of the work. He is a noble, true man-one of our best allies. Helen Hood came later with [entry continues in space for 9/11] the handsome new English edition of 19 BY. 1st issue of Isabel's "White Ribbon Publishing House." How times which [...] has [...]ted into this edition all the passing years! Whittier's preface by its [...] & Isabel's by its dear words tell the story of "so much gone." Bessie Gordon is on the sea comving over. Only in blessing have the Gordon-lives& mine been bro't together. How rich seems the world unseen as we walk toward it steadily! When we are there our own will be there with us! Christ & Mother & Mary will be first sought by me when I pass over. -Mrs. Cleveland [at top of p. for Sept. 11 Willard has written: Went to ride with Cossie on the heath-wind cold. Had Nannie's letter so cute, copied for print.] [here entry continues in space for 9/12] had another little girl-born at the White House Sept 9. Frank Folsom Cleveland is another that I count on for a Better World. Heaven bless & keep her & her little ones! Grover Cleveland has any amount of sturdy manliness-I only would he were with us for "Woman & Temperance."
My poor scalded tongue is better thanks to the wash prescribed by good little Dr Hewitson. What a surcease! The last of her 50 years of mindfulness was my mother's coming to me with a wash basin when she was hardly able to walk-a few days before she went to her last bed-& saying as I wrote on with mouth full of Dr.
