abused by the Dominie so one of Old Ironsides lieutenants wished his arrest but Oliver the Great asked him to dinner instead, converted him to his side & ever after had him for a warm friend and adherent. That was mastership.January 30, 1893Meetings-interviews-women & men. The policy of the Ex Com. came & was at once replied to & replies sent out in print to all the auxiliaries. All the time I was recalling 25 years ago & pleased at how much I could retrace in memory. We went to Holyrood, the castle, St Giles & all about. Nan enjoyed it hugely-she has an element of poetry in her like her dear father. In eve 4000 [could be 8000] in Synod Hall & an admirable speech from Isabel- presentations of all sorts & kinds from temperance people. A great day [?] night.February 2, 1893Conferences all day-to straighten out policy. These women will stand by Lady Henry right along. I am so glad because I earnestly believe that she stands for the larger hope-the will of God for poor drink-drowned Scotia and England. It is pitiful that
