Dressmakers & good clo'-essential but exhausting beyond words.

March 17, 1893

Went with dear Hannah Pearsall Smith to Boston & spoke to the usual great audience. Was entertained by Farrow[?] family in Dean Ingelow's old home. H. & I had much ado to do my hair. Saw process mustard making (host.) She had had throat severed 3 times-as good as drowned 3 times &c-remarkable woman.

March 18, 1893

Saw Boston-mother of ours. Named from St. Botolph[?] a Dane- earliest settler, Saw where pilgrims were imprisoned-visited beautiful ch. 12 pillars for months, 365 steps to town for days, 7 windows? for days in week. 52-something for weeks in year &c. Came to London & went thence with Cossie to Southampton to spend (invest) Sunday with Rothschild's daughter Mrs. Yorke. Cable from considerate Nan-stay til after Council.

March 19, 1893

Heard Canon Basil Wilberforce in his own ch. on "Sacraments." Crucifix, candles, processionals, antiphonals etc. But he is a free spirit in spite of all.-In eve spoke at Netley[?] in Mrs. Eliot Yorke's coffee house.

March 20, 1893

All day at World's WCTU dictating & meeting people. Interviewed J. H. Raper on Direct Veto for Lady H's paper. She is arranging "Demonstrations."

March 21, 1893

Usual routine so far as I can recall-"writing up" this record a week later.

March 22, 1893

Lunch at Madam Antoinette Sterling's[,] the famous ballad singer's, with Jean Ingelow, Mrs Millicent Fawcett, Mrs. Jacob Bright, Lady Henry, HW Smith & dear Mrs. Huggins-the astronomer- her face an evangel.
