February 9, 1893

Dictated to Grace Murrell until 2. Then lunch & an interview with J. H. Raper "the Nestor of the English temperance reform." He is a regular music bore-so well informed. He told me no end of things I need to know. We discussed with him about the difficulties in the BWTA and I think he was glad to hear both sides. He is a conservative and hence could not agree with Cossie & me altogether but he is a charming & gifted man & we like him.

February 10, 1893

Went to Luton[?] & spoke in the great "Plait Hall."[?] We were (Isabel & I) entertained at the Mayors & met Lady Battersea & Mrs. Elliott York-daughters of the famous Rothschilds & nieces of Sir Moses Montefiore. All are charming ladies-simple & loveables Lady B. presided at our meeting.

February 11, 1893

We all left London to come to Lady H's suburban home and have a bit of quiet for rest.
Before that went to George Wade a celebrated sculptor who is making fountain for Loyal Temperance Legion.

February 12, 1893

We breakfast about 10 on Sundays. Had prayers.-read all day. Cossie went to lunch with her son & the Pollens at the Priory. O the Sundays of old with my dear, sunny, spiritual minded Mother at the helm

Interview with Bro John G. Woolley-a most gifted & excellent man- so sensitive.
Nan helping get out the policy & other Docs for Lady H. How faithful & capable is AAG! She wrote George Wade sculptor a "settler" about the cup of cold water fountain.
I dictated all day.
Isabel busy with her factors, her son & her everlasting papers.
