meet the fittest survivals among women & men. But it is a wider world that Lady H has opened to me like an oyster.
-For the contradiction & absurd imputations that I want to "carry off the BWTA" I do not care-they do not disturb my equanimity.

There is a great life
-Mother is there
-but it is-where?
we shall soon know-to God we are already in our graves physically & spiritually in immortality!

My niece Katharine came to spend the day & night-a beautiful girl & bright. She grows serious with the years and is going to make a strong, true woman. How I wish she might "come with us" perhaps she will! Arthur Pollen Barrister came with Somers Somerset to dinner & we had much talk of Parliament-the woman question- leaders in various fields &c. I think K. has more & more what we all must have-the Godward sense.

Spoke at a Drawing Room meeting for our Mrs. Aukland, Mrs. Hooker & other dear standbys of Isabel. How earnest & true they are. There must be much contradiction from this on-the press has interviews and both sides are out in full. It is pitiful to be obliged to stop in the great harvest field to mend the reaper but when machinery gets "out of fix" that is the surest way-indeed the only-to gather in the harvest. A clear head has our English leader and all will go well-in or out of the BWTA

Lady H. has moved up stairs into a cozy den newly fitted up. She has her cousin Lady Waterford's sketches also her friend Watts and many more. Beautiful books, easy chairs,-everything quiet. My writing room is thus much enlarged for we two "overflowed its banks." Endless stenography-getting her newpaper ready. Miserable cablegrams from the Temple showing the stirring up of strife. Why is there such a "rising" all "on a sudden?" Is it she who said "I'm like a cat-when struck I strike back?"

Spring day-birds & flowers out. Lady Henry walked with her son all through Priory grounds. Nan & I took a stroll. Hannah W Smith & Rob't Pearsall Smith & Dr. ____ -here.
Read in Isabel's beautiful new den. Nan & I talked much. We have entered on our 17th year together.
