intellectual women always do. (Ahem!) Then Cossie & I took a ride & we all lunched & talked again. Stuart K.B. (my pupil of Auld Lang Syne) told us of Dr. Isham's scandalous conduct before a medical class & Miss ______ 's cutting reply. We talked of the Salvation Army & regretted its growing despotism. To bed at 11:30-later than we could wish.

Engelberg-
Up at 7 & breakfasted with dear white ribbon comrades. We saw them off by train & discovered that they by being globetrotters have learned to get on with 1 traveling bag & 2 small tin boxes. I wonder if I am to & must follow on over deadly salt seas & weary lands? "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Cossie & I came by steamer from Lucerne & carriage to Engelberg our summer destination if God will. 25 yrs ago I steamed through the Lake of 4 Cantons a fresher spirit-no, less alive & far less mellow-but in a body then that knew no weariness. We had a 4 horse carriage drive through luscious scenery to this heavenly height. C. got one of her awful headaches-blessed lamb! We dined on balcony of our lovely suite of rooms [....] she was suffering. Hope Nan is well & happy.

Hotel Sonnenberg.
Cossie dressed & we breakfasted in sight of the Heavenly Heights- some snow, some rock, some pleasant pasture land But she is not well-her head kept on aching & she lies here on her sofa asleep while I look over this Valley of peace and into these sky scapes & cloud-heavens & grieve that she who is so good to everybody & most of all to me lies here in pain-unless, as I hope, asleep.- Read my dear old "Bagster"-companion of so many years-since 1877. Thought of Mother-so near as I love to believe-& of the years so brief, till we shall all be gathered home. We read & wrote a lot & talked & went early to bed in this beautiful air & slept 10 hours.

I.S. began Salisbury Treatment.
Glorious morning. Castles Great Heart & Giant Despair (as we have named the highest) bright with sunshine. Have read my dear Union Signal & Cossie's Herald. She is busy sketching Christmas cards from which she hopes to get a revenue for B.W.T.A. She sent her droll chromos illustrative of current difficulties at Headquarters to Nan. We have family prayers reading from Daily Light.
