Learned that Kate Jackson & Carrie Whitely had a chalet at Chesicres-just across from ours-for Isabel has rented one for the future. How romantic is life! I have known Kate 30 years-she first brought me over& showed me the world. I returned& with Nan worked for temperance. Kate& dear Carrie came here years ago-now they have a handsome home in Evanston while my nest there is rifted and, tired by overwork, Nan & I come here to rest.-But Heaven will be best! All day nearly among the pine woods with their healing balm, p[..]ing through hay fields whose scent of grass& flowers no sybarite can match. Bluest of skies-Mt Blanc in sight that "Kingly spirit throned among the hills." Some little spring of life in me& I lay on the ground& dictated to Edith while dear attendant Nannie, faithful, tender &true spread the cloak for me &took my head in her lap. Heaven bless my younger sister who reminded Blessed Mother of "Our Mary." She goes soon to America to look after interests mutually dear-how I hope to follow! Nan read Epictetus aloud at recess time under the trees. What great& noble philosophy-how full of love &faith toward God. Nan read from Mary Wilkins, the gifted New England girl. A rich full day.
