At Portsmouth to speak in a great hall. Mrs Elliott Yorke [?] entertained with us at Speedwell Hotel (where Hon. Mr. Caine invited us as it is his.) Mrs. York is a daughter of Rothschild- niece of Sir Moses Montefiore & an old time friend of Lady Henry, we had a huge audience in a magnificent town hall- presentations, testimonials & all. Our Nan is on the deep blue sea! God keep the little one.

Came back from our trip to Gordon Sq. Dear Little Nan gone! Such sweet letters & telegrams from her to us & we to her. The faithful, loving heart! God send her safe & sound & let us know soon that it is so. I cannot tell how strange it seems "with so much gone" but Cossie is mindfulness incarnate and I am more glad than I can tell for friends so loyal & beloved.

Someday a telegraph will reach ships on the sea and sojourners in Paradise!-Wrote 50 pages while waiting in hansom cab for Cossie who was seeing her lawyers, shopping &c. Went to Dr. Bramwell hypnotist whom Lady H. thinks of starting in a small way with a Home for Inebriates. Quiet at Reigate Cottage in C's den. Heaven bless Nannie on sea!
